When Perfect Game released its newest Class of 2028 rankings and elevated Striker Pence to the No. 1 overall spot nationally, the reaction around baseball circles felt more like validation than surprise. The profile had been building toward this for a while. The tools, the projection, and the overall athletic package had become too difficult to ignore.

But if you reduce Striker Pence to simply “the top right handed pitcher in the country,” you miss what makes the profile special.

Because Striker Pence is much more than a pitcher.

He may currently be the most intriguing all around baseball player in the entire 2028 class.

At approximately 6 foot 6 and 195 pounds, Pence already possesses the type of frame professional organizations dream about. Long levers, broad shoulders, athletic movement patterns, and substantial room remaining for physical growth create a foundation that immediately catches attention.

Then the radar gun turns on.

Reports have Pence operating comfortably in the mid 90s with fastballs touching the upper 90s at an age when many players are still physically developing. For perspective, there are college pitchers entering the MLB Draft every year who never touch that level of velocity.

Pence is doing it as a member of the 2028 class.

The immediate reaction is obvious.

The arm jumps off the page.

But once evaluators spend more time watching him, the conversation quickly changes.

Because the bat starts making noise too.

More than a pitcher

There are many elite young arms who become specialized early. They pitch and little else. Organizations often protect those players and narrow the focus entirely toward the mound.

The offensive tools are legitimate.

The left handed swing shows easy bat speed and natural leverage with considerable power projection. The baseball jumps off his barrel with authority and there is already evidence of impact to both gaps. The operation remains surprisingly clean for a player of his size. There is rhythm in the setup, there is balance through contact, and there is very little effort required to generate damage.

That combination is rare.

Many larger framed hitters struggle maintaining adjustability because of length in the swing.

Pence does not currently show that issue.

Instead, the offensive profile suggests there could be another major tool developing alongside the arm.

Baseball bloodlines add another layer

The last name immediately catches attention.

Striker is the nephew of former MLB All Star Hunter Pence, one of the most recognizable and energetic players of his generation.

Baseball families often create curiosity among scouts because there is usually a foundation of understanding and exposure that begins long before showcase events and rankings enter the picture.

But while the family connection adds interest, the evaluation stands entirely on its own.

No one reaches No. 1 nationally because of a last name.

The tools earn that distinction.

And the tools here are substantial.

Pence has both.

There are very few players in America carrying this kind of ceiling at this age.

Advanced athleticism.

The combination creates a profile evaluators do not encounter very often.

Striker Pence may have just become the No. 1 player in the Class of 2028.

But if the development continues on its current trajectory, the rankings themselves may eventually become the least interesting part of the story.

For now, the baseball world is watching closely.

And there is a growing chance they are witnessing the beginning of something special.
